Welcome to ANIMARKT, the ultimate stop-motion animation event where creativity, technology, and artistry converge. Over several days (13-17 October 2024), you’ll have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders, participate in hands-on workshops, and network with talented professionals from around the world. Masters Section

This section is all about acquiring knowledge, discovering how the industry works, and getting to know the leading creators in stop-motion. You'll have the chance to hear from the following esteemed guests:

  • Melanie Coombs
    Producer of the Oscar-winning stop-motion short Harvie Krumpet (2003) and Mary and Max, Coombs will share her insights on the producer's vital role in stop-motion. She’ll also discuss her work as a production supervisor and co-producer on Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, offering a look at how the American and European markets differ.
  • Will Blecher
    Having spent his career at the iconic Aardman studio, Blecher worked as an animator on Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) and was nominated for a BAFTA and an Academy Award for his feature Farmageddon. He’ll discuss the differences between working in a large, legendary studio and developing independent films.

You will also meet the creators of new stop-motion productions such as Living Large and Savages, and learn about the crucial role of VFX and post-production in stop-motion from the production manager of the acclaimed anthology The House.

Additionally, Francesca Maxwell – an industry icon with credits on Chicken Run, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and ParaNorman – will be hosting one-on-one consultations. Don't miss the chance to hear from Delphine Nicolini, who has worked on films like Ernest & Celestine and The Swallows of Kabul.

Workshops

This year’s workshops will be led by some of the most respected names in stop-motion:

  • Chris Tichborne
    Animator on Bob the Builder, Postman Pat, and Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, Tichborne has also been an animation director on The House and directed projects like The Tiny Chef Show. He’ll share his extensive knowledge of stop-motion filmmaking in an immersive workshop.
  • Alicia Canovas Verdu
    After working on Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Verdu is now based at Aardman Animations, where she contributed to Star Wars Visions Volume II. Her workshop will provide valuable insights into puppetmaking.

Although the workshops and consultation are limited to pre-selected groups, all our guests will be available for one-on-one meetings as part of the Business Section.

Business Section

This section is the perfect opportunity to engage in one-on-one meetings, negotiate business deals, or showcase your portfolio to potential collaborators.

A key feature of this section is Coffee with Animation, where you’ll meet creators behind Still Life—an integrated system that brings together pre-production planning, production workflow, and digital pipeline for stop-motion. You can also connect with WWF, a Polish stop-motion studio open to co-production opportunities.

During the Career Days, you’ll have the chance to meet representatives from leading studios such as LAIKA, Pangur Animation, Cornelius Films, and ShadowMachine.

The program of each edition of the event is consulted with the Program Board, which consists of: animator Tim Allen (among others Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Corpse Bride), journalist Nancy Denney-Phelps, producer and distributor Luce Grosjean (Miyu Distribution) and production manager and producer Zofia Jaroszuk (Animoon) and Angela Poschet, an award-winning line producer and consultant for animation productions in Europe (known for her work on projects like The House, Isle of Dogs and Frankenweenie).
