Producers and production managers, who have a lot of stop motion animations in their portfolios, will speak about similarities and differences between working with feature and short films. How to use the experience of producing shorts while working on feature films? Which tools and skills gained on the production of feature films might be helpful in working on short films? This panel discussion will be an attempt to answer these questions.
About the debaters:
Melanie Coombs is an award-winning producer of animation, documentary and dramatic film and television. Awards include the Academy Award for “Harvie Krumpet”, the Asia Pacific Screen Award for “Mary and Max” and the AFI Award for “Break and Enter”. Her most recent feature film “The Death and Life of Otto Bloom” was the Opening Night Film of the Melbourne International Film Festival, July 2016. Since 2010, Melanie has been working in the UK and USA and is currently the Production Supervisor on Guillermo del Toro’s Stop motion animation adaptation of “Pinocchio”.
Eva Kameníková graduated Film Studies and Journalism. After graduating she started working as a production assistant at nutprodukce, where she produced, among other things, a short puppet stop motion fairy tale “Deep in a Moss”, which was followed by another work on the series “Live from the Moss”. She continued doing this animation technique after that and started to specialize in it. In the last two years, she has produced the largest Czech feature stop motion film “Even Mice belong in Heaven” with production company Fresh Films. Currently she is working on another feature family film called “Tony, Shelly and Genius”.
Angela Poschet is an award-winning Line Producer, Production Supervisor, Manager, Consultant for Animation productions in Europe. Her credits include numerous distinctive and commercially successful film and television projects. She was the Production Supervisor on Wes Anderson's latest stop-motion movie “Isle of Dogs” and Tim Burton’s Oscar-nominated “Frankenweenie”. She line produced the two most successful stop-motion features in Norway: “Solan&Ludvig Herfra til Flaklypa” and “Solan&Ludvig Jul I Flaklypa” in 2012 and 2015. As a Production Manager and Scheduler she was involved in the first Spanish feature produced in stereoscopic: “O Apostolo”; Her portfolio includes the award-winning CGI Feature “Maya - The Bee Movie”; Roald Dahls: “Revolting Rhymes“, “Sandman and the Lost Sand of Dreams”, “How to Raise the Moon”. She worked as a Cinematographer on the pre-school series: “Ludovic”, “Dragon and Friends”, “Miffy and friends” and in 1998 most notably, as DoP, she was setting up the very first season of the internationally popular television series, “Bob the Builder,” produced by the prominent HIT Entertainment (which also produced “Thomas & Friends” and “Barney”), received over 20 awards, including a BAFTA Award for “Best Animation” and two Parents’ Choice Awards. She is currently working for NEXUS STUDIOS in London on 3x30min eccentric dark animated comedy THE HOUSE for NETFLIX.
